Wine, Walk and Cycle Trail @ Lowe Vineyard

For some family friendly fun, take the whole family down to Lowe Vineyard and grab their trail map to explore the property with their wine, walk and cycle trail. The trail map itself is a work of art designed by Rachel Flynn from Red Tractor Designs, and it highlights 20 points of interest to discover on the Lowe Farm.

The kids can BYO bike, or you can take a leisurely stroll to find out what feijoas look like, say hi to the chooks in the Chook Palace and visit the rescue donkeys. There's a designated picnic area up by the behind the chardonnay vines, or you can head up to Federation Hill which has 360 degree views of Mudgee and the surrounding vines. The flip side of the map has stories explaining the lands history, geography and how they farm using biodynamic and organic methods, including composting and recycling water.

Leave the kids to go explore (if they're old enough) while you pull up a perch near the cellar door and indulge in a grazing plate laden with regional goodies like sourdough, olives, cheese, smoked ham, relish and seasonal fruit. The platters are available 7 days a week, and go perfectly with a glass or two from the cellar door. It's a great morning or afternoon out with the whole family, or a romantic adventure with your better half. If you're lucky you might even run into the family pet Louis Lowe, often spotted sunning himself somewhere, or making sure the chooks are behaving.
