Cycling and Mountain Biking in Mudgee

Here at the Horatio we are big fans of cycling, from cruising around the streets of town, to venturing out among the vineyards and beyond. There is no shortage of terrain to pedal in our diverse and beautiful region.

A few years ago a group of local riders got together with the Mid Western Regional Council to create a series of trails from easy rides around town, to long distance dirt tracks that meander through paddocks, river flats, farmland and vineyards for cyclists who want to mix business with pleasure - so you can get your daily dose of cycling, whilst taking in all the beautiful sights and sounds of Mudgee region. The book of 20 trails is worth checking out, and is available for free download from Mudgee Regional Council.

Mudgee Common is just west of the town centre and has some seriously good single dirt tracks crafted by the good folk at Dirt Art, with trails to suit all levels of riders. The site was developed in conjunction with the Mid Western Regional Council and Mudgee Cycle Club. Most of the tracks are detailed on Trailforks, and there's a great forum on FaceBook to touch base with local riders.

What better way to take in our famous wineries than on a bike in the fresh country air? You can hire a bike rather than bring your own at Pieter Van Gent vineyard where you can choose between their Classic Cruiser Bicycles or the new Beach Cruisers. Helmets and tour maps are also provided to visit nearby wineries and taste a variety of exceptional wines from their friendly cellar doors. You can also stop off at one of the nearby wineries for lunch or some wood-fired pizza. As Pieter van Gent Winery is in the heart of wine country, cycling between wineries is relaxed, so take your time and your camera as the scenery is amazing! We love this idea so much we've created a packaged around it, so you can make the most of you stay with us. Check it out here.
